Market Trends
The 2009 U.S. Families’ Organic Attitudes and Beliefs Study sponsored by the Organic Trade Association (OTA) and KIWI Magazine showed 31% of US families indicated they are purchasing more organic foods compared to a year ago. In fact, 17% said their largest increases in spending in the past year were for organic products. With the slow economy, many parents said they preferred to reduce their spending in other areas before cutting their use of organic products.
Consumers continue to seek out fresh organic fruits and vegetables at their local food cooperatives, supermarkets, farmers’ markets, and through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Other trends show that organically produced products such as milk, cheese, meats and baby food are growing in popularity with consumers.
